Welcome to the Sparta Advent Christian Church
Serving God in the Highland community, and through out the world!

Monday we worked around the 99+1 compound getting things cleaned up and ready for the week ahead.  We also provided some much needed labor to complete those projects that just needed to get done yet don't seem to always garner adequate attention.

We went to a local elementrary school and around the neighborhood to pass out invitations for VBS.

For lunch we had a local come in, she cooked fish and shrimp tacos that were very good.

This evening we went back to the elementary school to pass out invitations to the afternoon session of school and had VBS.  The kids were great, we sang songs, did a puppet show, took all of their pictures, and had them decorate picture frames.

Jan and Kathi. This is proving to be Jan's normal "supervisory" position. Being an Elder has its prividleges!

Pastor Rob helping Claudia prepare our lunch. Claudia is a part time employee of 99+1 Ministries and a local resident that came to know Christ through missions like this. She is preparing two of the dishes that this area has become famous for -- Fish Taco and Shrimp Taco. Everyone enjoyed these to the point we were just about ready for seista rather than work.

99+1 Ministries is well equiped to meet the needs of people when it comes to delivery of the Gospel message. They have a loaded-to-the-celing craft room for putting on these VBS's, a soundproof music room complete with dozens of instrument, and a repository for bedding, blankets, clothing, etc. This is below Pastor John & Bonnie's residence. Their goal is to help people find Jesus wherever they may be, as Jesus has done for us.

This is not to say that they have all that they need. We highly encourage everyone to assist us with these needs. Contact Pastor Rob for further information or go to www.99plus1.org.

Local children coming out of school.

The local children go to one of several schools in San Felipe in two shifts.  Schools are seperated not only by age group and geography but also by the aptitude of the students.  All children wear uniforms.  The 1st shift of children go from about 8am until noon and the 2nd shift from 1pm until about 5pm.

Claudia preparing our lunch of shrimp and fish tacos. She is tickled because of Pastor Terry's inability to withstand the combination of boiling jalepenos, onion, and other peppers while chopping an onion. While we do not know exactly what she said it was something akin to "big wimp."

Jan, with others trailing, passing out invitations to this weeks VBS in the neighborhood surrounding Pastor Octavio's home.

All of the properties here are fenced in some manner or another.  What we Central Ohioans think of as a front yard these people consider as the living room.  The culture, as well as the heat, demands that people spend a considerable amount of time outside.  So when we are passing out the invitations we were cautioned not to enter a gate unless specifically invited.  And we must say that we were invited many time by these loving people.

Passing out VBS invitations.

It is very common to find multiple generations of a family living in a single home or within several "rooms" of a single piece of property.  Family is the foremost influence on everyone around here.  All ages, sexes, and sizes know their first duty is to the family and that each person has a specific role in the success of the family.

This aspect makes our job as missionaries of Christ somewhat easy in that we can eaisly explain the unbounding love that Christ has for all of us in a fimilar way that these people can understand.
