Welcome to the Sparta Advent Christian Church
Serving God in the Highland community, and through out the world!

We would like to let everyone know that we have arrived in San Felipe safely. It was a long day for us, we arrived at 1AM pacific time 4AM for our Ohio bodies.

Yesterday was Shirleen's 70th birthday and she not only got to spend it on planes and a micro bus but was personally presented with birthday wishes by Ohio Governor Bob and Hope Taft.  Plus one of the airline stewards made her a royal crown out of pretzel bags and an entire plane sang Happy Birthday to her.  On top of all this, with the time changes and long travel time, she actually got to celebrate 3 extra hours of her birthday.

For the first day we are celebrating a Sabbath, after breakfast we worshiped with the San Felipe Baptist Mission church, this was an English speaking service. Then we had some family time, lunch, and siesta. This evening we went shopping and got to interact with the local people. In the market place it is not as imperative that you know Spanish to communicate. We also went to the Sea of Cortez, water was great. The beach is 2 steps from the markets.

After super we worshiped together and shared our experiences of the day.

I am going to try and update the site every day with pictures and a summary of the day so keep checking.

This is the whole group after Sunday worship. Pastor Gary is the one in the yellow shirt.

Group shot on the beach of San Felipe before some lesiure time to shop with the local merchants.

San Felipe is located directly on the Sea of Cortez in the Baja Pennsulia of Mexico.  The two main stays of the local economy are the fishing/shrimping industries and taking care of almost 33,000 North American (gringos) snow birds and permant retirees.  Although exteremly hot there is a persistant breeze coming off of the water and keeps it quite bearable as long as you can hide from the sun.

View from the front gate of 99+1 Ministries compound. The forground is the soccor field of the middle school situated directly across the street from us.
